Methodology

How we build and maintain our research base

Every piece of published research and every advisory engagement draws on the same record — a continuously maintained, internally reviewed base of regulatory and investment-incentive developments across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

One record, reused every time

Most research gets rebuilt from scratch for every question. Ours doesn't. We maintain regulatory and incentive conditions as a standing, structured record and draw on it continuously — which is what lets us move fast without cutting corners on sourcing.

One discipline runs through the whole system: an obligation and a benefit are never the same entry. The rule a company must meet — a licensing threshold, an ownership cap, a reporting requirement — is tracked separately from the benefit it can claim — a tax holiday, a duty waiver, a land-rights package. Keeping the two apart is what makes the analysis built on top of them reliable.

How the system works

01
Collection
We monitor official government, regulatory, and investment-promotion sources across our four markets and log new developments as they happen.
02
Review
Every new finding is checked against what's already on record, classified, and put through human review before it is treated as established fact.
03
Reference
Reviewed findings are written into a structured, dated record — one line for regulation, one for incentives — that is updated over time rather than overwritten.
04
Application
Analysts and advisors draw on this same record for published research, briefings, and due-diligence work, so every output traces back to the same evidence.

Coverage today

The base is still growing — deliberately so, as we deepen coverage market by market.

Two domains
Regulatory obligations and investment incentives, tracked and reviewed as separate categories so the two are never conflated in analysis.
Four markets
Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam — the same four markets covered across our published research and advisory work.
200+ records tracked today
Regulatory and incentive developments currently on record across the four markets, each dated and sourced.
Building toward 500+
Coverage expands on a standing review cycle as we deepen sector and jurisdiction detail, market by market.

This system supports our internal research and advisory work. It isn't a public database or a client-facing application.

Why it matters

Consistency
Every report and advisory engagement draws from the same underlying record, so findings don't drift between one piece of work and the next.
Traceability
Every entry carries its source and date, so a finding can be checked, not just cited.
Currency
The record is reviewed on a standing cycle, not refreshed only when a client happens to ask.
Discipline
Obligations and incentives are kept as separate tracks, so a regulatory constraint is never mistaken for a commercial benefit, or the reverse.

What this is not

Not a public database or product — an internal system that makes our published research and advisory work more consistent and better sourced.
Not a substitute for legal, tax, or compliance advice. Where formal counsel is required, we'll say so and can point clients to qualified counsel.
Not comprehensive across ASEAN. Coverage is limited to the four markets where we maintain active, reviewed tracking — Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
